DIY LiBCM Kit

LiBCM Kit Contents:

1: LiBCM Computer - Replaces the OEM BCM, allowing safe lithium operation.

2: Grid Charger - Automatically charges and balances the lithium IMA battery. Just plug into any standard outlet; LiBCM handles the rest.

3a: LCD Display - Provides realtime system status to driver.

3b: 10' LCD Cable - Long enough to put the screen anywhere you want.

4: USB Cable - Allows simple firmware updates. Provides extensive data logging (to external computer).

5: Voltage Tap Adapters - Monitors all cell voltages to prevent over/under charge.

6: Temperature Sensors - Monitors lithium module temperatures. LiBCM also monitors ten other temperatures (intake, exhaust, etc).

7: HVDC Current Cables - Connects the lithium modules together and to the OEM junction board.

8: Battery Brackets - Secures the lithium modules in place.

9: Mounting Hardware - Connects everything together. A 2.5 mm kit is included (uncommon tool in America).

10: Safety Conduit - All HVDC wires have a secondary insulator to prevent abrasive faults. This piece covers the modified "MCMe" harness.

Where do I purchase batteries?

The simplest method is to purchase a set from Bumblebee Batteries:

The EHW5 lithium modules used with LiBCM are sourced from newer hybrid Honda vehicles. The G3 Honda Insight's IMA pack (1D070-6L2-A00) contains QTY2 12S+, QTY1 18S-, and QTY1 18S+ modules. The 2018-2020 Accord Hybrid (1D070-6C2-305) and 2017-2020 Clarity Electric (???) probably also contain EHW5 modules (configuration TBD).

I already have batteries. Will they work?

LiBCM requires three specific EHW5 module types:

A: 18S- or 18S+: Either type works, and;

B: 18S-: MUST be "18S-" type (see next question), and;

C: 18S- or 18S+ or 12S+: 12S+ is the simplest/cheapest option. If using 18S- or 18S+ for module 'C', an "18S->12S Conversion Kit" is required (for an additional fee). If needed, this Kit is automatically added to your order.


Summarizing the above, LiBCM requires one of the following EHW5 module configurations:

18S-/18S-/12S+ (ideal)

18S+/18S-/12S+ (ideal)

18S-/18S-/18S- (requires 18S->12S Conversion Kit)

18S-/18S-/18S+ (requires 18S->12S Conversion Kit)

18S+/18S-/18S+ (requires 18S->12S Conversion Kit)

LiBCM will NOT work with any other EHW5 module configuration!

What are "18S+" and "18S-" Modules?

"18S+" module: The BMS connector is located on the positive terminal side.

"18S-" module: The BMS connector is located on the negative terminal side. Most known 18S modules are 18S-.

What about "12S-" Modules?

They likely don't exist. All known 12S modules are 12S+.

Can I use different lithium batteries?

Yes, but from a mechanical perspective, you're on your own. Linsight will provide double-insulated BMS ribbon cables. You'll need to figure out how to safely route them to each cell in your system. Linsight hardware supports systems up to 60S. However, at present the firmware only works with 48S systems.

Linsight does not recommend using non-EHW5 modules unless you have prior lithium conversion experience.
